The Term : The term "giclee print" illustrates an elevation in printmaking technology. Images are generated from high resolution digital scans and printed with archival quality inks onto various substrates including canvas, fine art, and photo-base paper. The giclee printing process provides better colour accuracy than other means of reproduction.

The Advantages : Giclee prints are advantageous to artists who do not find it feasible to mass produce their work, but want to reproduce their art as needed, or on-demand. Once an image is digitally archived, additional reproductions can be made with minimal effort and reasonable cost. The prohibitive up-front cost of mass production for an edition is eliminated. Archived files will not deteriorate in quality as negatives and film inherently do. Another tremendous advantage of giclee printing is that digital images can be reproduced to almost any size and onto various media, giving the artist the ability to customize prints for a specific client.

The Definition : Giclee (zhee-klay) - The French word "giclée" that may have been derived from the French verb "gicler" meaning "to squirt".

After its introduction in the middle of the 1990s, Giclée quickly became the best high quality limited edition print option for professional artists.  Giclée prints are digitally printed onto papers or canvas using specially pigmented inks. Giclée prints allow you to create professional quality reproductions of your artwork and because you can do small print runs, it means that this is an ideal and affordable way for you to test the market.  The advantage of Giclée printing is that you can re-order the same print at any date in the future without further additional set up costs. No need to keep large stocks of prints - just let us know when you need some more!

To get the best results have your works professionally photographed. Once your file has been prepared, cleaned-up, and colour corrected, we will archive the file at your request in our computer bank. If you would like re-prints later, just let us know and we'll pull your file from the archive and print it - no recurring costs to you except for the printing.
